We can’t believe it is October already! If you are new around here – welcome, and if you have joined us before – it is great to see you again! As you may know, each month we focus in on a different theme – which aligns with one of our 14 points of culture. This month, we are diving into the theme of ‘Ownership’.

You’re the Boss

Being a business owner, you’re in charge – during the best of days and the worst. We can appreciate this can be incredibly rewarding when things are going well, but also really difficult when things get hard. No matter what the outcome is, it all falls on you. So what happens when the result isn’t what we hoped for?

When Things Go South

When things go wrong, it’s important to think about what could have been done to prevent it from happening in the first place. Things to think about include:

  • Communication | Was the communication between yourself and your team clear and consistent? Are there appropriate measures in place for your team to ask questions, and receive answers?
  • Training | Was everyone trained to the standard that  you hold your business and employees to? Have they been equipped with the right tools in order to achieve well? Does everyone understand their role in the business?
  • Systems | Are the systems in place effective and reliable? Are they regularly updated?
Accountability

In order to encourage your team to own up to their mistakes (and accomplishments), they must see you do it first. Creating a space that celebrates success and encourages growth from mistakes allows progressive action to take place as opposed to repercussions. This allows the process to be a productive and positive one for all, and encourages honesty within your team.
