Here at ActionCoach, we pride ourselves in standing by our ’14 Points of Culture’. This month, we are focusing on point number 10, and one of my personal favourites – FUN!

We view life as a journey to be enjoyed and appreciated, so we strive to create an atmosphere of fun and happiness so all those around us can enjoy it too.

Did you know… we spend 33% of our lives at work?! If you count your earlier education too, that statistic almost doubles! Creating fun in the workplace looks different for everybody, but the importance is just the same! Doing so accomplishes more than just the initial feel good factor, in fact, many benefits are generated as a result. The two strongest outcomes are:

Communication

Through encouraging fun activities within the workplace, employees are more likely to communicate effectively and increase their team bonding skills. Encouraging non-work related conversations can positively impact work related communication in many different ways.

Positive Mindsets

Not only does this boost team morale, this leads to an improvement of both productivity and performance within the workplace. As a business owner or leader, it is important for you to have a positive attitude towards your work, as your team is likely to reflect your behaviour.

There are many ways in which you can reach these results and create fun in the workplace. Some of our favourites here at ActionCoach Newry include:

Exercise

Although we are currently working from home, our morning Zoom meetings start with stretches and fun Yoga poses to help wake us up, get the blood pumping and put a smile on our faces.

Catch-Up Time

We make sure to allocate time everyday to chat about non-work related topics including our weekends, pets, families, adventures, movies, books and of course the yummy food we’ve eaten.

Pets

It is a known fact that pets help to reduce stress, promote positive mindsets and increase the feeling of relaxation – so we make sure to talk about ours and include them into our Zoom meetings as often as we can!

Friendly Competition

Our Newry team are all goal driven individuals. Creating a light hearted, fun and friendly competition amongst our team helps us push one another to achieving our goals and to keep us motivated, even on those days that seem to drag.

The world is in a pretty crazy place right now, and finding time to look out for one another, and create a fun, positive and happy atmosphere goes a long way, both in the workplace and in your personal lives.

We challenge you this week to find ways to bring elements of fun into your workplace. After all, “people rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing” – Dale Carnegie.
